Making a Revision Timetable that actually works

In the fast-paced world of academia, effective time management is the key to success. For students, especially those facing the daunting prospect of exams and assignments, a well-structured revision timetable can make all the difference. It is the roadmap to achieving academic excellence while maintaining a balanced life.

In this blog post,  I will delve into the art and science of creating a revision timetable that not only helps you cover all your study material but also ensures you have time for relaxation and other activities. Get ready to unlock the secrets to productive and stress-free study sessions, as I guide you through the essential steps of crafting the perfect revision schedule.

How to fill a revision timetable:

  1. Use a pencil.
  2. Block school and college lessons off.
  3. Take an hour off after school because that’s your ‘travelling/refreshing time’.
  4. Block other commitments (sport, religious, family events).
  5. Fill in the remaining gaps with how many subjects you have to study (allocate 2 hours each if you are in school, and 3 hours if you are in college).
  6. Revise in blocks of two hours, with an hour long break. You can have two hours of the same subject, or different subjects. Try both and see which one you prefer.
  7. Don’t revise past 10pm, you won’t be working at optimal level.
  8. Don’t forget to plan for breaks, eating, sleeping etc.

How to prioritise what you need to revise:

  • List all your GCSE subjects – all of them. Allocate fair time to all your subjects. Students sometimes study more of the subject they enjoy, or the subject they find challenging, neglecting those subjects they are already strong at.
  • After allocating 2 hours each for each subject, add one more hour for the certain subjects you think you need to achieve a certain grade to progress into what you plan to do next.
