Safeguarding Policy

1. Policy Statement

Najma The Maths Tutor is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All students have the right to feel safe, supported, and respected while receiving tuition.

Safeguarding is taken seriously, and appropriate steps are taken to minimise risk and to respond to concerns promptly and professionally.

2. Scope of This Policy

This policy applies to:

    • All tuition provided by Najma The Maths Tutor
    • All students under the age of 18
    • Parents and guardians engaging with our services

Tuition is delivered online and/or in agreed formats, and parents remain responsible for their child outside of lesson time.

3. Roles and Responsibilities

Najma The Maths Tutor is led by Najma Mohamed, who holds overall responsibility for safeguarding arrangements within the service.

Parents and guardians are expected to:

    • Ensure students are in a suitable and safe environment during lessons
    • Be available before and after sessions if needed
    • Communicate any relevant safeguarding or wellbeing concerns
4. Use of Associate Tutors

Some tuition sessions may be delivered by associate tutors working on behalf of Najma The Maths Tutor.

All tutors are:

    • Appropriately vetted
    • Required to hold an enhanced DBS check
    • Expected to follow this Safeguarding Policy and all professional standards set by Najma The Maths Tutor

Najma Mohamed remains responsible for safeguarding oversight and procedures.

5. Safer Working Practices

To protect students and maintain professional boundaries:

    • Tuition is conducted in a professional and appropriate manner at all times
    • Communication takes place via agreed channels (e.g. email, approved online platforms)
    • Lessons are focused solely on educational content
    • No private social media contact with students is permitted

Parents may request to be present nearby during lessons if they wish.

6. Online Safety

For online tuition:

    • Lessons are delivered using reputable platforms suitable for educational use, such as Lessonspace
    • Students are encouraged to work in a shared or supervised space where possible
    • Cameras are not mandatory, but respectful engagement is expected

Najma The Maths Tutor does not record lessons unless agreed in advance with parental consent.

7. Lesson Recordings

Where lesson recording functionality is available (for example, via Lessonspace), lessons may be recorded for the purposes of:

    • safeguarding and professional accountability
    • quality assurance and tutor development

Recordings are:

    • accessed only where necessary
    • stored securely
    • retained for a limited period
    • not shared routinely with parents or students

Where recordings include more than one student, they will not be shared.

Requests for access to lesson recordings will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be declined where disclosure would affect the privacy or rights of others.

8. Recognising and Responding to Concerns

If a safeguarding concern arises:

    • The student will be listened to calmly and respectfully
    • No promises of confidentiality will be made
    • Concerns will be recorded factually and stored securely

Where appropriate, concerns may be shared with:

    • Parents or guardians
    • Relevant safeguarding services

Any immediate concerns relating to a child’s safety will be reported to the appropriate statutory services without delay.

Where necessary, parents or guardians may be advised to liaise with the student’s school or other appropriate professionals for further support.

9. Allegations or Concerns About Tutors

Any concerns or allegations relating to any tutor delivering sessions on behalf of Najma The Maths Tutor should be raised promptly and confidentially via:

Where required, advice will be sought from appropriate safeguarding authorities.

10. Recruitment and Checks

Najma The Maths Tutor holds appropriate safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check, which is kept up to date

11. Use of Images and Work

Student work or anonymised feedback may only be shared with explicit parental consent. No identifying images of students are used publicly without written permission.

12. Review of This Policy

This policy is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains appropriate, effective, and aligned with current safeguarding guidance.
